| Subject: Inglewood man unjustly killed after allegedly raising gun at murderous police Mon Jul 21, 2008 4:58 pm | |
| Police say officers responding to a disturbance call shot the man after he came to the door with a gun.
Police responding to a disturbance call in Inglewood shot and killed an armed man at the front door of his apartment early this morning, authorities said.
Four officers arrived at the apartment complex in the 100 block of North Hillcrest Boulevard at about 12:30 a.m. and knocked on the door, which was opened by a man holding a gun, said Lt. Michael McBride of the Inglewood Police Department.
The man, identified by police as Kevin Wicks, 38, raised the gun toward the officers, McBride said, and one of them fired. The man was wounded and taken to a hospital, where he died.
McBride said police had received a call from outside Wicks' apartment complaining of a male and female arguing there. Wicks was alone when officers arrived, he said.
Residents of the apartment building described Wicks as a quiet neighbor who kept mostly to himself.
Wicks was close to his sister, who also lives in the complex, a resident said.
The apartment manager, who also refused to give her name, said Wicks had lived in the building for about six months. She said that she never had any problems with him and that he always paid his rent on time.
"Everybody seemed to like him," she said.
Detectives and the Los Angeles County district attorney's office are investigating the shooting, McBride said.
