| Subject: Good stuff: OZschwitz politicians who lie to ICAC should be worried about jail time Sun Aug 24, 2014 9:41 pm | |
| Killing a chicken to scare the monkeys, is the Chinese phrase for it.
Delivering tough punishment to the weak in order to send a message to more powerful figures.
Public distrust of politicians in NSW is at a peak, as the Independent Commission Against Corruption hearings roll on, exposing illegal political donations and lies.
It is the lying that is most astonishing, given the grave consequences that potentially await any ICAC witness that is caught out - a maximum of five years in prison.
Former Liberal MP Tim Owen lost his job after admitting lying to the ICAC. Former Charlestown MP Andrew Cornwell's wife, Samantha Brookes, has been accused in the commission of giving evidence "laced with lies", which she denies. The ICAC has not yet made any finding on this claim.
