Zoo handler bitten on leg in tiger attack
A Queensland zoo keeper has been bitten by a tiger, the second such incident in eight months.
Juma the tiger tagged the keeper on the leg, Australia Zoo announced.
"Keeper has tooth puncture wound but is fine," the Sunshine Coast zoo said on Twitter.
In November, a 114kg Bengal tiger, Charlie, became "overexcited" and bit his handler Dave Styles on the neck and shoulder during a tiger show.
About noon on Tuesday, a male zoo handler was bitten on the leg as Juma, a 10-year-old male Sumatran tiger, was moved from one area to another.
"First-aid protocol was followed, the same as Australia Zoo renders all staff, and the keeper is going to be fine," the zoo said in a statement.
"Juma the tiger is fine as well."
The 42-year-old male handler was attacked as Juma was introduced to new handlers, the Courier-Mail reports.
