The Federal Member for Kennedy, Bob Katter, removed his shoes in Federal Parliament today in response to a century-old Australian footwear company losing a Defence contract to cheaper imports.

Mr Katter is seeking an inquiry into the support of Australia's defence manufacturers.

'Australian combat troops refuse to use the Austrian style rifle which is the American armalite, which can be produced in Australia for half the price,' Mr Katter said.

'On Anzac Day soldiers marched in socks because the soles had fallen off their Chinese boots.'

South Australian company Rossi Boots was told it failed the value-for-money criteria under commonwealth purchasing rules.
