A houseboat that washed ashore in Florida in 1960 has been listed for sale with a $US6.25 million ($A6.64 million) price tag.

The boat was allegedly docked nearby on the archipelago, south of Miami, when Hurricane Donna ripped it off its mooring and planted it in the middle of the US Route 1 Highway.

According to the marketing material, it was then rolled on telephone poles to its current beachfront position where it remains forever "anchored".

Listed with Leslie Leopold of Sothebys International Realty, the houseboat was reputedly built for Baron Conrad Hilton, the founder of Hilton Hotels (better known to younger readers as Paris Hilton's great granddad).

"Rich in history, this estate has entertained many dignitaries including President Harry Truman and President George Bush Sr," reads the marketing material.
