| Brisbane's deputy mayor has hailed a much-maligned move to charge residents to park outside their homes a success, just as it emerged city council is set to reap nearly $60 million from parking this financial year.
In budget sessions at City Hall on Friday, Adrian Schrinner revealed council was set to make $28 million in parking fines and a further $19.5 million from meters this year.
It will also make $10.2 million from council car parks.
The revelations prompted "streets of gold" accusations of revenue raising from Opposition Leader Milton Dick.
However, Cr Schrinner also revealed a dramatic drop in the number of visitors parking permits issued, due to the controversial residential paid parking permit scheme council introduced in last year's budget.
