Yelling “jail killer cops” and demanding to meet with Mayor Richard J. Berry of Albuquerque, more than two dozen demonstrators stormed his office on Monday and held a sit-in in the lobby before tactical police officers moved in to arrest them. City Hall was put on lockdown, and the City Council meeting was rescheduled for next week. The protest was the latest to rock the city because of anger over recent police shootings. The Justice Department faulted the Albuquerque police over the use of force and is negotiating with the city on overhauls. David Correia, a critic of the police and an American studies professor at the University of New Mexico, said demonstrators wanted Chief Gorden Eden fired and a complete overhaul of the police department. The police said 13 demonstrators were charged with criminal trespassing, unlawful assembly and interfering with a public official or staff.
