| A high-tech paint coating capable of repelling fluids could put an end to the conventional car wash.
Nissan is evaluating nano technology with super-hydrophobic and oleophobic properties that repel water and oil.
Developed by US company Ultratech International, the Ever Dry coating gives cars an invisible shield that keeps cars clean and dry.
The technology was put to the test on a Nissan Note hatchback, which demonstrated that the product could work on cars.
Nissan spokeswoman Geraldine Ingham says the brand will consider offering the technology as an aftermarket option, though it will not be applied in the manufacturer’s factories.
“We are committed to addressing everyday problems our customers face and will always consider testing exciting, cutting edge technology like this incredible coating application,” she says.
The coating was not developed specifically for cars, and is currently sold as an industrial product to prevent vandalism, water damage and corrosion.
