Pigs strangle cop killer before trial takes place

US authorities are investigating the death in prison of a 19-year-old inmate two days after he was charged with killing a policeman.

Ronnie White, 19, of Maryland, was charged with the first-degree murder of corporal Richard Findley on Friday. On Sunday authorities found him strangled in his jail cell in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.

"The (state medical examiner's) report shows that Mr White did not die of natural causes, and his death is being ruled preliminarily a homicide," said Prince George's County executive Jack Johnson.

"Only the correctional officers in the (maximum security) unit where he was housed had access to him from the time he was put in the cell until the time of his death," Johnson added.

"If we have vigilante justice, our society will fall apart. If we tolerate these kinds of acts, the courts are superfluous," Johnson told The Washington Post.

White's family has called for a full investigation into his death, voicing outrage over what had happened.

"You know, this case and this situation is larger than Ronnie White," said the family's lawyer Bobby Henry.

"One thing we must all understand is that, if any one person is denied justice, everybody is denied justice. And that is a problem," he told reporters.

"This did not happen on some dark, abandoned, lonely road. This happened in broad daylight in the custody of county officials, and something is wrong," Henry added.
