| The Libertarian Party of Collier County has announced a plan for a rally/protest to thank whistleblower Edward Snowden for exposing the widespread violations of the U.S. Constitution's Fourth Amendment through our government’s domestic spying programs. The rally is scheduled for Saturday, February 22, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. starting at the corner of US41 and Pine Ridge Road in Naples, Florida with a march down to the Waldorf Astoria Naples. Supporters are encouraged to bring their own homemade signs as they rally in support of our Constitution and the Fourth Amendment.
At the rally, the Libertarian Party of Collier County will also be protesting former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton, who is the keynote speaker, at the Collier County Republican Lincoln/Reagan Dinner at the Waldorf Astoria Naples. John Bolton recently announced in an interview with Fox News that he believed that Edward Snowden should “swing from a tall oak tree” for his actions.
Jared Grifoni, Chairman of the Libertarian Party of Collier County, stated yesterday, “Given that the last public hanging in the United States occurred back in 1936 for a violent crime, I think it’s safe to say this is more evidence of the growing disconnect between a Republican Party stuck living in the past and the overwhelming majority of Americans who believe in liberty and a society free from an Orwellian surveillance state. To see the local GOP honoring a Republican official who thinks that someone should be hanged for telling the American people the truth is disturbing...”
Grifoni continued, “Just like most daunting issues facing Americans today, this is another bipartisan problem. The “most transparent administration in history” of Barack Obama continuing the Bush-era warrantless surveillance of American citizens is case in point. Rather than the token nod that the GOP and Democrats give to portions they may like on a given day, especially during election years, the Libertarian Party stands up for principles embodied within the entire Bill of Rights and Constitution, every day, election year or not.”
The Libertarian Party of Collier County was responsible for the first rally in Naples in support of the Fourth Amendment and Edward Snowden that occurred on June 21, 2013, just days after the details of the massive domestic spying operation were reported by the press. Edward Snowden is responsible for exposing the collection of millions of phone records of Americans (PRISM) and of 200 million SMS messages per day across the globe; the collection and monitoring of all US internet traffic through XKeyscore, an NSA program that collects "nearly everything a user does on the Internet" and stores it in databases; the ability of the NSA to tap into smartphones to obtain emails, contact lists, geolocation data, and more; the collection of over 250 million email inbox views and contact lists a year from online services like Yahoo, Gmail and Facebook; plus much more.
