| When Prince George was born weighing an impressive 8lb 6oz few people probably suspected that Carol Middleton's diet during pregnancy had influenced his healthy size.
But in an intriguing new study, scientists believe that maternal grandmothers play a far greater role in the health of their grandchildren than previously thought.
They found that grandmothers who ate well during pregnancy and kept their daughters well-nourished in their first few years had heavier, and therefore healthier, grandchildren.
And they believe that the nourishment that a mother gets in her early years is more important than what she eats during pregnancy.
