In an announcement sure to gladden the hearts of men of a certain age everywhere, veteran new wave rockers Blondie are to receive a "Godlike Genius" award from British rock magazine NME.

Blondie's iconic 68-year-old frontwoman Debbie Harry said she was flattered to be awarded the extravagant title.

"It's great you know," she told the magazine. "It's out of proportion, but it's nice to be recognised. It's outstanding, really."

Blondie will be joining an impressive list of rock royalty who have previously won the award, including U2, Ozzy Osbourne and Manic Street Preachers.
