| Brisbane City Council has moved to protect its lucrative international student market by further cracking down on overcrowded share houses.
City Hall won the backing of the Local Government Association of Queensland last week to give councils across the state the power to tighten strict regulations against unscrupulous landlords.
Council lifestyle committee chairperson Krista Adams said Brisbane's southern suburbs remained a hotspot for property owners cramming as many students as possible into houses to net maximum rental value.
"It's not a large problem but it is an identified problem," Cr Adams said. Advertisement
"We want to make residents feel comfortable and to make sure we have safe places for international students to come.
