| A former Queensland country cop who ignored a report of an abandoned car has been symbolically demoted after it was found his inaction may have contributed to a man's death.
Augathella-based Sergeant Andrew Thomas was off duty but on call when he received a call about 11.30am on December 6, 2009, about an abandoned car on Narran Road at Wyandra, south of Charleville.
Five days later, the body of 64-year-old Barry Powell was found in bushland near the car after an extensive search.
It was only when Sergeant Thomas heard about that search, on December 10, that he told Charleville CIB about the call he received.
