| PEORIA, IL -- For the first time in Illinois police are refusing to take no for an answer this Memorial Day Weekend.
In a campaign to catch drunk drivers, the State's Attorney's Office and Peoria Police Department will not allow people to refuse sobriety testing.
This weekend if you're pulled over and refuse a breathalyzer test, a county judge will order you to submit a medically authorized blood sample within an hour of your refusal.
States Attorney Kevin Lyons says it's too easy for drivers to refuse the breath testing making it difficult to prosecute them for a DUI.
He says this is the first weekend they're trying the program but it won't be the last.
"People should know there's a new change coming and the change is that the last word on refusal will not be rested with a driver," said Lyons.
He added that all costs involved in the forced blood testing will be the responsibility of the driver.
The program kicks off Friday and will run through Monday evening.
