A Drive spy spotted the prototype - internally called the F150 but rumoured to be called F70 when it hits dealerships - testing in Ferrari's home town of Maranello.

Although details of the hybrid are shrouded in secrecy, early media reports suggest it will be powered by a 600kW petrol engine, assisted by an additional 75kW of electric output. If true, those figures would translate to the Ferrari F150 being the Italian brand's fastest road-going car so far.

The petrol-electric drivetrain is complemented by new styling features, including an aggressive front end with a deep air intake on the bonnet, and a rear with strong parallels to formula one.

Beneath the cosmetic changes lies an all-new carbon fibre chassis.

Ferrari is said to be working on reducing the weight of the vehicle to boost performance, with the target set at one tonne.
