POLICE used a Taser on a 55-year-old man in western Sydney just hours after the State Coroner handed down critical findings on police abuse of the weapon.

The man was allegedly involved in a fight with another man in Lakemba on Wednesday night, before becoming aggressive when police tried to arrest him.

He took up a fighting stance, clenched his fists and told officers: ''I'm a fighter, come on,'' the Assistant Commissioner, Frank Mennilli, said.

The man then threw a junior officer through a glass shop window on Haldon Street and picked up two other officers and threw them to the ground.

Capsicum spray failed to subdue him so a senior sergeant fired his Taser. Even after being stunned, he tried to remove one of the Taser probes and have another go at police, Mr Mennilli said.
