| Subject: Halloween exorcism: Idiotic US school bans US holiday Sun Oct 21, 2012 9:21 pm | |
| It looks like there’ll be no trick-or-treating this year in a school in Seattle as the administration has banned students from celebrating Halloween.
One of America’s most beloved holidays, known for extravagant get ups and plenty of candy, was cancelled on the grounds of the possible offence that might be caused to students of other cultures.
Dozens of parents of those attending Lafayette Elementary School were left enraged with the administration’s decision and demanded a detailed explanation. “It seems like another one of those things where kids are no longer allowed to be kids,” parent Hart Rusen told KCPQ-TV.
The school’s official explanation was that they didn’t want children to be distracted from their studies on a short school day this year.
But other reasons have been circulated after one parent spoke to The Seattle Time. He said that a school vice principal told him Halloween costumes were banned because they might be offensive to some students.
Many parents found this reason ridiculous, saying that the holyday has long become a secular rather than a religious event.
“I was just really sad and I had to fight back tears,” a fourth-grader told KCPQ-TV.
