Queensland's retiring top cop Bob Atkinson says senior police are determined never to allow a return to pre-Fitzgerald inquiry corruption, despite the loss of 11 roles in the ethical standards unit.

The Newman government defended the cuts to 11 positions in Queensland Police Service's Ethical Standards Command, saying they were administrative roles.

The QPS has abolished the equivalent of 120 full-time staff member positions since the March election, according to evidence tendered to Parliament's Legal Affairs and Community Safety Committee.

A list provided by Police Minister Jack Dempsey shows the Ethical Standards Command has lost 11 positions: a principal investigator, a senior investigator, a senior ethics adviser, five administrative officers and three senior research officers.

Mr Atkinson, who is due to finish work as police commissioner on October 31, said no sworn police officer positions had been cut and the service's commitment to professional and ethical standards was rock-solid.
