POLICE will not pursue charges against the disgraced former Clarence MP Steve Cansdell even though he admitted blaming a worker in a false statutory declaration in 2005 to avoid losing his driver's licence.

Mr Cansdell, who was a Nationals MP and parliamentary secretary for police, resigned from State Parliament in September last year after making the admission to the leader of the Nationals, Andrew Stoner.

It later emerged that just days earlier his former staff member, Kath Palmer, had told the Independent Commission Against Corruption that Mr Cansdell signed a false statutory declaration in 2005 saying she was driving his car when it was caught by a speed camera.
