Mercedes-Benz has kicked off a high stakes bid for electric performance car supremacy with the unveiling of the production version of its new SLS AMG Coupe Electric Drive at the 2012 Paris motor show. Priced at a breathtaking €416,500 ($516,000) the SLS AMG Coupe Electric Drive is 2.5 times more expensive than the regular, V8-powered SLS Gullwing it’s based on, suggesting it would cost about $1.25 million in Australia once local taxes were added.

Don’t go looking for the SLS Electric Drive on Australian roads though, because Mercedes-Benz says there are no plans to produce it with the steering wheel on the right.
