And now an F-bomb, a naughty song or a dirty drawing could cost you even more.
A trial of $240 fines issued for four indecent language offences was made permanent in June 2011, when the state government decided the measure had eased pressure on the court system.
But while the number of people taken to court has dropped, the total of offenders fined has increased by about 40 per cent since infringement notices were introduced. The fines rose to $280 this financial year. Advertisement
Police legal services director Findlay McRae said the change had allowed police to spend more time on the beat.
