Suspect chase by poLICE found dead in Reno trash

A suspect fleeing police in Reno apparently was crushed to death in a trash compactor at a downtown apartment complex while hiding from pursuing officers.

Police Sgt. Dave Della said Rodney L. Wright had numerous injuries consistent with being crushed when officers pulled him from the compactor and began life-saving efforts about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The 37-year-old Reno man was taken by ambulance to a local hospital and pronounced dead.

Della says Wright apparently slid down the trash chute from 1 of the floors of the residential complex and triggered the electronic activation of the enclosed compactor.

The chase began downtown after marshals at the municipal court had identified Wright as matching the description of a suspect wanted on an undisclosed warrant. He crashed a bicycle, fled on foot and was found about 15 minutes later.
