| THEY'RE a menace on the road. I think you know who I'm talking about.
Anyone would think they own the road the way they carry on!
All they do is hold up traffic. Have you ever been stuck behind one of them? Advertisement: Story continues below
They simply ignore the road rules. ''Oh no, they don't apply to us. Red lights, what are they?'' There's a crossing made just for them over there, but nah, they don't care, and anyway it's up to drivers to stay out of their way.
What would happen if you hit one of them? It'd be your fault, even though it's them flouting the law. And you'd have to pay to fix the damage to your car, because they're not insured, you know.
''Go ahead, sue us!'' they say, but you can't. You don't know who they are, and there's no way of reporting them because they don't have registration either.
I blame the councils - Clover Moore and her lot - they've built up all these expectations by doing them a favour, now they're taking it as a right.
All over Sydney councils have spent millions, probably billions, on building special infrastructure. They're still ripping up roads to build more of it.
But stand on one of those things in the middle of the day and you won't see a single one of them - deserted, a waste of taxpayers' money.
And if you point this out to them they get all ''green'' on you, rabbiting-on about how their carbon footprint is minuscule compared to yours.
Try to report one of them and the cops just shrug their shoulders: ''Nothing I can do, mate.''
But there are some things we can do:
1. Make them register. If you don't pay for the road, you don't use it. And make them wear the registration number on their backs, so you can report them.
2. The money from registration will pay for their precious infrastructure - user pays, mate!
3. Compulsory insurance, so when one of them hits your car you can force them to pay.
If you need any more convincing that they're a danger and a nuisance, just have a look at the latest road safety campaign. According to the figures, 314 of them were killed or injured on Sydney CBD roads last year. That's just the CBD - think about how many more accidents there are in the suburbs.
I am, of course, talking about … pedestrians.
Bloody nuisances. Imagine how much better Sydney traffic would be if we got rid of them.
Especially for all us law-abiding, traffic-friendly bicycle riders.
