| Subject: Thieving Saudi statists: Immunity claim in OZschwitz school fees case Sat May 26, 2012 6:18 pm | |
| THE Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is claiming immunity under the Foreign States Immunities Act to avoid a Supreme Court showdown with an Islamic school over more than $2 million in unpaid fees.
Lawyers for the Saudi government last week declined to comment, but the chairman of the Queensland-based Australian International Islamic College, Imam Abdul Quddoos Al-Azhari, said he was shocked by the immunity claim, which was a ''warning to others not to do business with the kingdom unless they received money up front''.
The fees allegedly are due for the dependent children of students studying under the prestigious King Abdullah overseas scholarship program - the biggest of its kind in the world - over three years. Advertisement: Story continues below
The Saudi ambassador to Australia, Hassan Talat Nazer, has said the matter is an administrative mix-up by the college.
