| Subject: Nanny state knows best: Parents to be sent emails and texts telling them how to bring up their kids courtesy of UK Govt Sat May 19, 2012 3:52 am | |
| PARENTS will be sent emails and texts from the government telling them how to bring up their children.
Prime Minister David Cameron is ignoring Tory anger at the growing number of “nanny state” Coalition policies to unveil a new NHS website for mums and dads to sign up for advice on pregnancy and childcare.
The NHS Information Service for Parents will send regular messages with weblinks to videos providing trustworthy and practical advice, such has how to bath your baby.
The PM said it was “ludicrous” to force people to learn to drive “but when it comes to looking after a baby we tell people to just get on with it”.
He added: “It’s through love and sheer hard work that we raise the next generation with the right values. This is not the nanny-state – it’s the sensible state.”
Children’s Minister Sarah Teather said parents often go to ante-natal classes before the birth and the government believed parenting classes afterwards were equally beneficial.
And ministers will also announce today that million of pounds worth of “relationship support” will be tested this summer to stop first time parents splitting up.
