Police are deploying fake prostitutes to try to stamp out illegal prostitution in Dutch hote. In an undercover operation, they sent actresses from Eastern Europe to spend three days in three hotels in Amsterdam. Every day, the actresses received six fake customers a day. They frequently asked for new towels, and they left "used" condoms in the trash bin.

Under an agreement between the Dutch police and the hotel sector, hotels are supposed to report any suspected illegal prostitution. Two of the hotels said they had noticed some signals, but they didn't see any reason to contact the police.

Police have provided training to staff in Dutch hotels on how to pick up signals that illegal prostitution is occurring on their premises. But apparently, more needs to be done.
