OZschwitz Government expects 12 year old girls to fuck; Implants contraceptive devices

Queensland Health has admitted implanted contraceptive devices in girls as young as 12, and has called on the opposition not to sensationalise the practice.

Opposition child safety spokeswoman Jan Stuckey told state parliament she discovered the practice on a visit earlier this year to two indigenous communities - Aurukun on Cape York and Woorabinda, west of Rockhampton.

She said she had passed on concerns raised with her to police.

"I was told by concerned residents (at Woorabinda) that they spoke to DoCS (Child Safety Department) last year about girls as young as 12 receiving implants,'' Ms Stuckey told parliament last night.

"Staff said that the matter should be investigated but nothing has happened.
"Is it any wonder that some townsfolk despair and no longer report abuse, even when it is as harmful and unlawful as this?''

Queensland Health acting chief health officer Linda Selvey today said the practice was rare but warranted in some circumstances.
