| AS A GP with more than 35 years' experience, David John Ellis treats 120 patients a week and has never been the subject of a complaint.
But the eastern suburbs doctor feels he has been branded an alcoholic after being ordered by NSW medical authorities to stop drinking - even socially on his days off.
Dr Ellis, who runs a surgery in Edgecliff, must also submit to a monthly blood test to make sure he has not had a tipple.
He came to the attention of the then NSW Medical Board after he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2006. As a result, he was ordered by an Impaired Registrants Panel convened by the board to limit his drinking to ''social consumption'' at only two to three drinks a day and to start monthly blood tests to monitor his alcohol use.
