FORT MEADE, Maryland: Appearing in a US military courtroom for the first time, accused WikiLeaks source Army Private Bradley Manning said he understood the charges against him in a criminal case that involves one of the largest leaks of classified material in US history.
The pretrial proceeding bogged down in legal manoeuvring on Friday when Manning's civilian lawyer, David Coombs, argued that the presiding military officer could not be impartial because he is a federal prosecutor in civilian life.
Coombs said Army Reserve Lieutenant Colonel Paul Almanza should step aside because he is the deputy chief prosecutor of the child exploitation and obscenity section of the criminal division of the Department of Justice.

Lawyer for Wiki accused attacks judge
FORT MEADE, Maryland: With his small frame draped in the digitised fatigues of the US Army and his eyes blinking slowly behind thick glasses, the man accused of the largest intelligence leak in American history has appeared in court for the first time.
Amid a cloak of intense security and fevered interest, Private Bradley Manning, one day short of his 24th birthday, stood before a court martial on Friday to answer charges of passing secret material to WikiLeaks - an act prosecutors say endangered the security of the world superpower.
Asked if he had seen the list of 36 charges which, if proved, could condemn him to a lifetime in prison, he nodded his head and quickly and quietly said: ''Yes, sir.''

''You still have the hat on your head of a member of the Department of Justice,'' he said. ''That simple fact alone would cause a reasonable person to question your impartiality.''
And that goes for all statist judges!!! _________________ Anarcho-Capitalist, AnCaps Forum, Ancapolis,OZschwitz Contraband “The state calls its own violence law, but that of the individual, crime.”-- Max Stirner "Remember: Evil exists because good men don't kill the government officials committing it." -- Kurt Hofmann
