| We expect our police to be cool and steady in the face of pressure and provocation but the conduct of many uniformed police in recent days has not been cool, particularly that of Sergeant Prue Burgun, enthusiastic in her use of scorn, taunts and threats.
On Tuesday, at a rally attended by several thousand uniformed police outside the NSW Parliament, Burgun, the treasurer of the Police Association of NSW, mocked the Minister for Police, Mike Gallacher, himself a former police officer, saying the only injury he had ever suffered in the line of duty was a paper cut.
The minister was betraying police, she said, by scaling back their disability scheme. Playing to the crowd, she portrayed Gallacher as a desk jockey who got out of the force when it got too hard.
