WORKERS' compensation sick leave in the NSW police force has increased five-fold during the past seven years, a government review has found.

On a weekday, the number of officers off sick is almost a fifth of those rostered on duty.

Hundreds more are on ''restricted duties''.

The report into injury management within the force, commissioned in May when the government announced an audit of policing, coincides with growing discontent among officers.
