A 92-year-old woman was abandoned by staff at a central Victorian hospital and forced to wait outside in the dark for 45 minutes until a teenage passer-by responded to her calls for help.

"Glen" said his mother was admitted to Bendigo Base Hospital about 8pm on Friday night to see a cardiologist, but when one could not be found, hospital staff decided to send the elderly woman home.

"They got her organised," he told Radio 3AW.

"They put her in one of those hospital wheelchairs. They just wheeled her out the front to the kerbside, which we think was then around midnight, or 12.10am."
