Khattiya Sawasdipol cut a flamboyant figure in the ranks of Thailand's Red Shirt protesters and served as a major embarrassment to the country's fractured armed forces. Now his death on Monday, five days after being shot by an unknown sniper, threatens to crank up tensions in Bangkok to fresh highs as a government deadline for antigovernment protesters to disperse ticks closer.
