You probably thought it was a white work van parked at the side of a busy Brisbane street - if you noticed it at all.

But this Holden Rodeo is hiding a covert speed camera.

Hundreds of drivers who sped past the car over Easter can expect their fine in the mail within weeks.

The Rodeo's identity was revealed this morning, as Queensland Police defended its use of covert cameras to catch speeding motorists.

Almost 2700 speeding drivers have been caught by one of the three new covert cameras, introduced for the deadly Easter period.
