| MARION, Ohio — Investigators said this week that they did not find any evidence of criminal activity by a deputy who committed suicide after pretending he had cancer.
The Marion County Sheriff's Office ended its investigation into Deputy Joe Russell's death, according to the Marion Star.
Russell, 39, committed suicide in October after suspicions grew about whether he was really sick.
An autopsy determined that Russell was healthy.
Russell's fellow deputies donated about 600 hours of their sick time to Russell and he received $20,000 for medical bills from a fund raiser.
