Employees get the boot, argue policy is totally lame

Fidelity Investment has fired four of its employees after discovering they were heading up dangerous gambling rings, also known as fantasy football leagues. In a nightmare scenario for guys everywhere, the commissioners of four office leagues were sacked recently, the Fort-Worth Star Telegram reports, after company officials intercepted some nefarious e-mails and IMs. “One of my buddies sent me something about how bad Trent Edwards was playing,” says ex-employee Cameron Pettigrew.

“We have clear policies that relate to gambling,” says a Fidelity spokesman. “In addition to being illegal in a lot of places, it can be disruptive.” But the fired commissioners say that policy is poorly communicated and enforced—Pettigrew says he knows of at least 10 leagues in which company leaders and managers played. Plus…c’mon! “Firing a guy for being in a $20 fantasy league? Let’s be honest; that’s a complete over-reaction.”
