A YOUNG girl in Victorian state care was raped by five men and later repeatedly escaped from a welfare residential unit to live with three middle-aged men who plied her with drugs.

The case came to light in the Melbourne Children's Court last week when the Department of Human Services applied to extend a secure welfare order on the 12-year-old girl - to continue to hold her in a secure unit where her movements are monitored.

At the time of the rapes, the girl was living in a DHS residential unit. She later escaped from the unit seven times and was eventually discovered at the house of the three men. Only then was she placed in the secure 10-bed unit.
