CONVICTED killers, rapists and paedophiles are among 750 dangerous criminals on the run from prison in Britain, shocking figures showed yesterday.

The convicts are roaming the streets after breaking the terms of early release schemes or committing new crimes while released on parole.

Some have been at large for as long as 25 years without being tracked down by police.

And in a damning indictment of lax Government controls, more than 100 new dangerous convicts have gone on the run since an official crackdown was launched in July.

Shadow Justice Secretary Dominic Grieve said: “It is deeply disturbing that so many dangerous criminals who have been recalled to prison are still on the run.

“This Government’s failure to manage the criminal justice system properly is putting the public at risk.”
