| DECATUR, Ga. -- DeKalb County's CEO has announced a program to help the county's emergency responders buy foreclosed homes.
CEO Burrell Ellis announced a program Monday that will use federal stimulus funds to help those designated as first responders buy homes in the suburban county.
The county will set aside $1.5 million for police officers and another $1 million for firefighters, sheriff's deputies and other sworn "first responders."
The subsidy will be $14,150 for those who stay in a home at least five years and $25,000 for those who remain for 10 years, and is designed to stabilize neighborhoods hit hard by foreclosures.
