Three-quarters of cabbies have no qualms about dodging their taxes, according to new research into Australia's taxi industry.

University of Queensland researcher Maarten Rothengatter on Monday released the findings of a survey of taxi drivers in which 75 per cent admitted they did not pay income tax.

The drivers were based in Sydney, Darwin, Melbourne and Geelong.

Dr Rothengatter said he was driven to explore the financial issues facing cabbies from his own experience working as a cab driver in the 1990s.
