| Work and pensions secretary James Purnell is facing controversy after it emerged he avoided thousands of pounds in tax on his London flat. When he sold the flat in 2004 he told the Revenue it was his main residence, thereby escaping capital gains charges. A spokesman said Mr Purnell had not broken any rules.
