A police force of hundreds has descended on the Freedom Convoy truckers in Ottawa, Canada, making scores of arrests and towing away big rigs that have formed a three-week blockade around the country's Parliament to protest vaccine mandates.

As the police cordon creeped slowly toward the epicenter of the demonstration on Friday afternoon, at least 70 protesters had been arrested in the sweep on a variety of charges including mischief, said Interim Police Chief Steve Bell.

Bell said his forces are 'in control of the situation on the ground and continue to push forward' and that 'the operational plan is moving ahead as expected' but declined to provide details on specific plans to deal with last-ditch holdouts at the blockade.
