| NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has announced the need for planning reform in the state and it is desperately needed right now.
For 10 years I was NSW government architect and I championed the public side of the development debate. I assumed the private side was only in it for profit and it needed to be controlled. But then I became chief executive officer of the Urban Taskforce, which represents the private side of city building. After eight years I am stepping down, but with a very different perspective on private sector developers, who are battling an inefficient and biased planning bureaucracy. And this inefficient planning system is having a negative impact on the state’s productivity.
