| Subject: Lawsuit: Parents blame Suwannee High School science teacher's bullying for son's suicide Sat Oct 12, 2019 9:14 pm | |
| The parents of a 14-year-old ninth-grader at Suwannee High School who killed himself are blaming his science teacher, saying he systematically bullied the teenager in the weeks leading up to his suicide. Gloria and Joseph Simmons of Live Oak filed a complaint in the Third Circuit Court alleging that Kaleb’s fifth period science teacher Jerry Jolicoeur verbally abused and taunted Kaleb, accused him of misbehaving, and publicly humiliated him in front of his classmates. “He was not teasing him in a funny way,” said their attorney, Jim Biggart of Morgan & Morgan in Tallahassee. “It was mean, humiliating and embarrassing.” The lawsuit said Jolicoeur – who continues to teach science at Suwannee High School – violated the school district’s anti-bullying policy, and that the district failed to protect Kaleb, who was a small, shy child.
