A community college is reportedly distancing itself from the views of one trustee, Felecia Nace, after Nace spoke at last month’s Straight Pride parade in Boston, telling a crowd that children are being confused and indoctrinated.
The Straight Pride parade, the first in the country, was held Aug. 31 with attendees marching from Copley Square to the front of Boston City Hall, where there were remarks from various speakers, including Nace.

“LGBTQIA curriculums are finding their way into our public-school systems,” said Nace at the Straight Pride parade. “Children need stability, not confusion and indoctrination."
The community college has distanced itself from Nace’s views. RVCC Director of Media Relations Donna Stolzer told NJ.com that Nace’s attendance at the parade did not represent the views of the college.
“Dr. Felecia Nace was present as a private citizen and her comments do not represent in any way the views of RVCC,” said Stolzer in an email to NJ.com.
Critics of Nace reportedly are planning to attend a college board meeting on Tuesday, including a Democratic freeholder candidate in Somerset County, Melonie Marano, whose campaign on Monday afternoon sent out a statement from her calling on Nace to resign.
"At a time when our country is becoming more diverse, and our young college students are becoming more understanding about LGBTQ+ issues, we cannot have board members who actively try to exclude gay studies from education,” Marano said in the statement provided by her campaign to NJ.com.
A group called Super Happy Fun America organized the Straight Pride parade. Group president John Hugo told MassLive that Nace is the group’s science advisor.
“Listen, we are giving you an inheritance of free speech,” said Nace referring to younger generations at the parade. “Protect it and make sure that you value it.”
LGBTQ Pride Month is currently celebrated each year in June to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in New York City. Memorials are held during this month for members of the community who were killed in hate crimes.
Tarah Demant, Amnesty International director of the Gender, Sexuality and Identity Program said the group, Super Happy Fun America, who organized the parade willfully misunderstand the history of why the LGBTQ communities celebrate Pride.
“In 2019 we have seen a rise in hate crimes toward the LGBTQ community,” Demant said to MassLive about the Straight Pride parade that took place.
In addition to Nace, guest speakers at the Straight Pride parade included former Breitbart News editor Milo Yiannopoulos, author Barbara from Harlem, author Teresa Richenberger, hip hop artist G. Notes Justice, libertarian political activist Adam Kokesh and Hal Shurtleff from Camp Constitution.
