| An Australian woman has been sentenced to 10 years' jail in the Islamic Republic of Iran and is being held in a notorious prison where distraught family members are unable to visit.
The prisoner, who worked as a lecturer at a Melbourne university and previously studied at Cambridge in England, has been in detention since she was arrested in October last year while travelling in the country.
The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age have chosen not to reveal the woman's identity, or that of those close to her, as it may harm her prospects of release.
She is being held in the notorious Evin Prison, a facility on the outskirts of Tehran used to house the country's political prisoners.
