A new prosecution unit will freeze and seize assets of corrupt public officials in NSW.

This month's state budget will provide funding for the public prosecution unit, which will be made up of a team of senior lawyers to prosecute public officials for corruption.

The unit will sit within the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) and complement the "critical work" of the corruption watchdog the ICAC, the Berejiklian government says.

The large team of experienced lawyers will make applications to confiscate, freeze and seize the assets of corrupt public officials, including politicians who break the law.
