| Subject: OZschwitz Slave Pen: 'No culture, no fun': Music giants rally against state government Tue Feb 12, 2019 5:32 pm | |
| The music industry is ramping up its attacks on the Berejiklian government just weeks out from a state election, with ARIA award-winning electronic duo Peking Duk warning there won't be "any festivals left" in NSW if changes aren't made to controversial new rules governing live music events.
NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian moves to reassure that the Byron Bay Bluesfest will not be impacted by the new laws as it is not "high-risk", unlike the two festivals who have already blamed the laws for cancelling.
Peking Duk's Reuben Styles and Adam Hyde have called on NSW voters to back anyone but the Liberals at the ballot box in March. The pair said they decided to speak out after music festival Mountain Sounds was cancelled a week before it was due to take place.
It comes a week after the organisers of Psyfari announced their 2019 event was no longer going ahead thanks to what they described as a "war on festivals". The NSW government is currently implementing reforms that include additional costs for policing and tougher liquor licensing conditions.
