| Subject: Statist idiots: OZschwitz government stands by Murray-Darling Basin boss amid calls for royal commission Fri Feb 01, 2019 5:55 pm | |
| The Morrison government is backing the head of the beleaguered Murray-Darling Basin Authority, despite a royal commission accusing its senior officials of "gross negligence" and "maladministration".
In his final report, commissioner Bret Walker, SC, said he had "serious doubts" about whether the authority's management could do its job, while calling for a dramatic overhaul in the way Australia's longest river system is managed.
His report also accused the Murray-Darling Basin Authority of failing to account for climate change and breaking the law when working out the "sustainable diversion limits" that govern how much water can be taken out for irrigation. It said "politics rather than science ultimately drove [the decision]".
